Cleta Joy Wood died Nov. 17, 2006 while staying with her daughter and son-in-law in Portland, Ore.
Mrs. Wood was born July 8, 1926 in Elk City, Okla.
She moved to Phoenix in 1930, then in 1976, she and her husband, Ernest, moved to Gisela, Ariz.
Having a gentle and caring personality, she had a long, wonderful career working in hospitals, including Good Samaritan in Phoenix and Payson Regional Medical Center.
She was instrumental in establishing several Christian Churches in Phoenix and Payson. For several years after retirement, she and her husband were caretakers for the Christian camp in Prescott.
She was one of the original community members to start the Gisela Volunteer Fire Department and had on occasion driven the firetruck and gave emergency medical services to residents in need.
Survivors include her children, Rick Wood, Jean Gorslin, Toni Browne, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Central Christian Church, 700 E. Wade in Payson. At her request, her ashes will be scattered in Hawaii.
