Each candy cane on the library's special Christmas tree lists a children's or an adult section book ranging between $4 to $20 -- the library's cost.

A "Donated by __________, Christmas 2006" label will be placed in each book and a tax deductible receipt given to the purchaser. Bids are also being taken for "Arizona Sunset," an oil on canvas painted and donated by artist Steve Edwards. Proceeds will go toward the library expansion project.

"I love to read and I love the library," said Edwards, who recalls when the library was housed in a small building on Main Street. "I'd like to challenge other artists to donate their work."

Bidding on "Arizona Sunset" begins at $500 and closes Saturday, Dec. 30, so the buyer may take advantage of a 2006 tax deduction.
