John Severin Gyring, of Payson, died Dec. 17, 2006, at RTA Hospice House. He was 84.
He was born on Oct. 1, 1922 in Borvebru, Norway. He came to the U.S. from Norway in 1946, as a merchant seaman.
He worked as a painting contractor for 45 years. He moved to Payson and retired in 1990. He became a Jehovah's Witness in 1960 and enjoyed his ministry in retirement. A source of encouragement to his family and friends, he will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Betty, his daughters Ingrid Hilton, Sandra Bernier and Brenda Cowell, his sons Mark Smith and Rodney Gyring, 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, at 1616 N. McLane Road. Time is private.
