Payson Striders begin walking Jan. 2

What's your New Year's resolution? Many people make it their goal to become more physically active in the upcoming year and Payson Parks and Recreation would like to help you make that dream a reality.

Beginning Jan. 2, everyone is invited to join us for a brisk walk, which will depart from the Payson Parks and Recreation office at noon sharp every Tuesday and Thursday through the end of March. TOP Striders will be led by a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer who will design sensible workouts for the group and provide general advice on various health and fitness issues.

If you'd like to become a member, sign up begins Dec. 1 and the cost is $25 per person, which includes a bottle of water and the use of a pedometer for each walk. Drop-in participation will also be permitted for the cost of $2 per day.

Group traveling to Gold Rush Days Feb. 9

Come and enjoy the festivities for the 59th Annual Gold Rush Days and finish the evening with a concert by "The Sons of the Pioneers" at Del Webb Performing Arts Center in Wickenburg. Festivities include arts and crafts, food booths, carnival, gold panning, classic car show and free stage entertainment. The bus will leave at 10:30 a.m.

Concert begins at 7 p.m. The cost per person is $60 and includes concert and transportation. Tour is limited to first 46 participants.

Group traveling to Kartchner Caverns

Experience "The Big Room" at one of Arizona's most unusual state parks on March 7.

Tour a living limestone cave featuring dynamic structures such as stalactites, stalagmites, and other unusual formation.

The Big Room tour is a longer and more physically challenging tour at one-half mile in length. The tour takes 1-1/2 hours to complete.

The cost is $60 per person, which includes transportation and park entrance fees.

The tour is limited to 50 participants.
