Gila County School Superintendent Linda O'Dell's Payson Education Center will open for classes Wednesday Feb. 15, 2006. Initially 20 students can be accepted into the school.
The Payson center, like the Globe Education Center, is an "alternative school intended to serve students who have come in contact with the law in some form or another," said O'Dell.
"I want to educate children who have not been successful in other places, who have dropped out and do want to come back. I am prepared to serve the needs of students who have previously been home-schooled and do want a high school diploma. Basically I am looking to serve kids who are perhaps at risk of not succeeding in the traditional school setting."
Student application packets will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Monday, Feb. 6. PEC is located at 1100 N. Beeline Highway, Payson.
Applying sooner rather than later will allow PEC to access previous school information so a "meaningful education plan" can be put in place for each student, O'Dell said.
