Due to dangerously dry conditions and the threat of an early fire season, the Payson Fire Department suspended the issuance of open burning permits effective Feb. 1.
Until the Payson area receives more precipitation, and the fire danger subsides, open burning will not be allowed.
If residents need to dispose of their brush or tree trimmings, they can be taken to the RPAP brush pits, which are open on weekends. Contact the Payson Fire Department at (928) 474-5242, ext. 300 for pit locations and operating times.
The fire department reminds residents that any open burning after Feb. 1 could result in a citation.
