It was amazing to me to type "February" for this column. The days are flying by too quickly.
The president has just proclaimed February as National Heart Month. February is also known as the President's month. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln have birthdays this month. They will be celebrated together on Presidents Day, Feb. 20, which is a national holiday, with no school. We cannot forget that Valentine's Day is Feb. 14, since the stores have had merchandise out since just after Christmas. There should be no excuse for anyone not to remember their certain "sweetie" on that day with candy or flowers, or something more original.
Tonto Village Fire District
The big news in Tonto Village this past week has been the delivery of the two 5,000-gallon water storage tanks to the fire department. Phon Sutton loaned his big truck and Bill Snyder provided his trailer to bring the tanks to the community. Now it is up to Darren Hopley and Nick Fitch to place those tanks on the back lot of the fire department. Thank you to all the volunteer firemen for the better edge Tonto Village will now have on any fire emergencies.
The next Tonto Village Fire Board meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 11 at the fire station. Everyone is urged to attend.
The next Fireflies auxiliary meeting will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Tonto Village Chapel. Future fund-raisers will be discussed, along with ways for more of the women within the fire district to become involved.
