Ann H. Staveness, 70, of Payson, died Feb. 1, 2006 in Payson. She was born Oct. 5, 1935 in Menomonie, Wis.
Mrs. Staveness worked for First American Title Company of Gila County in Payson as a vice president senior escrow officer and retired in 2000, after 25 years with the company.
She was a member of the Arizona School Boards Association for four years and a member of the school board for Payson Unified School District for 14 years, serving as its president for four years, during the time when Frontier Elementary and David N. Wilson Multipurpose Center were built. Additionally, she was instrumental in getting the first charter school in the state of Arizona for Payson, known as Payson Center for Success. She was also on the board of Payson Center for Success.
Mrs. Staveness was treasurer of the Industrial Development Authority for the town of Payson, treasurer of the Gila County Republican Party and was also precinct committeeman.
She was a member of Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church and was the financial secretary of the church. She was also a member of the construction committee for building the new church, and a choir member.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde Staveness of Payson; and sister, Betty Styer of Milwaukee, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Emma Hintzman of Menomonie, Wis.; parents, Herman and Mabel Burwitz of Menomonie, Wis.; and sister, Marion Clayton of Phoenix.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10 at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church, 507 W. Wade Lane. Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park.
