A two-vehicle fatal collision occurred Feb. 5 north of Strawberry, according to Sgt. John Whetten of the Payson office of the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Lawrence Huntington Taylor II, 54, from Rye Brook, N.Y. was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.

Taylor and a friend had flown out from New York and were touring Arizona on rented motorcycles.

Taylor started down the Rim on Highway 87 at milepost 272.7. "He was unable to negotiate a sharp right-hand curve and laid his bike onto its right side," Whetten said.

He and the bike then slid into the oncoming lane, colliding head on into a Toyota Tundra pickup truck.

Taylor was wearing full leather gear and a full-face helmet.

The Toyota truck was driven by Stephen M. Austin, 55, of Cave Creek.

Austin was accompanied by his wife and two young children.
