Elmer Searle was a first sergeant at Lowry Air Force Base, Denver, Colo. and Martha Kennedy was a student nurse at Colorado Training School for Nurses at Denver General Hospital when they met July 1, 1939. The couple was married Feb. 15, 1941.
Mr. Searle served overseas in World War II and in the Korean War, after which Mrs. Searle and the couple's two daughters joined him in Japan for two years.
Mr. Searle's other assignments were from San Francisco to Long Island, and he retired from Randolph AFB in San Antonio after almost 25 years. Mrs. Searle worked as a registered nurse, while raising their children.
After Mr. Searle's retirement, the couple was able to choose their own assignment: Payson. They became acquainted with locals while doing volunteer income taxes for the elderly for more than 15 years, and through churches and the Elks.
They have been blessed with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
