I've heard that our theater is not going to bring "Brokeback Mountain" to Payson, indicating that it is too controversial.
I have a concern with this censorship in view of the type of movies that are being brought here that portray violence, hate, and aggression. Three issues than stand out: 1) Is our community not able to handle controversy? 2) Are we really open to diversity, or is that just lip service? 3) Are we giving a double message that we don't want our youth exposed to violence, but then bring in those movies that depict violence?
Three of the previews shown last week were all violent movies. Perhaps we need to think some things through.
