Richard Phil Shumway, 62, known as Turk, died Feb. 17, 2006 in Payson. He was born and raised in St. Johns, spending his summers at the family sawmill in New Mexico.
Mr. Shumway was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served a two-year mission for the church in Florida. He served faithfully in many capacities, including Young Men's President, Elders Quorum President, Bishopric and the High Council. He especially loved working with youth. One of his greatest qualities was his capacity to love, and his generosity knew no bounds. He loved to travel and see the world.
He is survived by his wife, Clarice Kaye; sons, Rick, Roger and Jeff; 10 grandchildren; brothers, Douglas of Guatemala, Mark and Monroe, both of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 302 W. Aero Drive.
A visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 913 S. Ponderosa in Payson, with funeral service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park.
At the family's request, any memorials may be made to the Perpetual Education of the LDS Church.
