On behalf of the Arizona Central West Zone Incident Management Team, I would like to thank the citizens of the Town of Payson and the surrounding Rim Country communities for their hospitality and support during the recent February Fire. Over the years, our team has had the responsibility of managing the suppression of several wildland fires around Payson. On each occasion, we have found the members of the community very supportive of our efforts.
The citizens of the Rim Country, town and county, along with the elected officials and the Payson Ranger District of the Tonto National Forest, have made admirable advances in the thinning of their forests and the establishment of defensible space around their homes. The fuels reduction programs and prescribed fires completed in the last five years were instrumental in the containment of the February Fire. Continuing efforts of this nature will only enhance the safety of the community. You are to be commended for your efforts.
Again, we thank you for your hospitality and wish you a safe and fire-free year.
John Philbin, Incident Commander, Arizona Central West Zone Incident Management Team
