Q: What do voters need to know about the four-year term for mayor that is on ballot?

A: "When Payson first went to the direct election of mayor, which was back in the 1980s, they decided to do two years," said Town Manager Fred Carpenter. "There was suggestion by the council shortly after this new council got elected to make (the mayor's office) a four-year term. The only way it can be changed is by a vote of the people. It is on the ballot for the people to decide if the mayor should have a two-year or a four-year term."
