On Wednesday morning, I received a telephone call from Glenn Smith, Director of Finance for the Town of Payson. Smith told me that he had mistakenly given me incorrect information that I used in a Letter to the Editor, and he requested that I write a correction using the correct information. I agreed to his request and am writing a correction using the accurate spending figures he provided to me.
The spending figures for Mayor Brewer, and council members Henley, Reese, and Vice Mayor Buettner that I used in my original letter are correct. Council Member Wilson was originally reported to have spent $3,909.50. His corrected spending figure is $3,184.50. Council Member Fruth was originally reported to have spent $4,657.99. His corrected spending figure is $3,782.99. Council Member Barriger was originally reported to have spent $2,148.95. His corrected spending figure is $3,748.95.
I am told that a recording error in the Finance Department of the Town of Payson, discovered after I received the original spending figures for all of the council members and the mayor, is responsible for the incorrect figures.
I wish to emphasize that this error occurred as the result of the Town giving me incorrect information, not as a mistake on my part in reporting the information incorrectly. That said, it is important for the citizens of Payson to know the spending of all their elected officials, and not single out Council member Reese.
