That tiny bit of snow has helped to keep the dust down just a little. We need lots more now to take care of our thirsty trees. My woodpile is shrinking. Hope I have enough to last through the winter.

The Pine Library Friends will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at the library activity room, formerly the Kiwanis building, at the rear of the Pine Community Center. Yours truly, Christy Powers, will speak on the incredible work of therapy dogs and how they help so many people in such a variety of ways. Bring your pet questions, which will be answered to the limits of the speaker's knowledge. Everyone is invited.

Pine Library's evening hours are changing. Beginning Feb. 1, the library will be open Thursday evening, instead of Tuesday evening. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. All the other hours remain the same. If you have any questions, call (928) 476-3678. Pine Library is still in need of some volunteers. Can you help? Call Becky.

The Pine Strawberry Fire Department is having a smoke detector promotion during the month of February. They will come to your home, test your detectors, answer any questions you might have, show you how to clean and properly install the life-saving equipment if needed. The department also has a limited supply of detectors. If you know of someone who does not have one, tell him or her to contact the fire department and they will bring one out and install it. Call (928) 476-4272 to sign up for a house call. This program is just during February. Call right away to get signed up. A smoke detector could save your home and your life.

The Gila County Republican Committee will sponsor a Lincoln Day lunch at noon Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Mazatzal Casino. Senator Jon Kyl will be the featured speaker. Tickets are $25 per person. Reservations must be made at least 10 days in advance, and no tickets will be sold at the door. Call Charlotte Mortensen, (928) 476-6560, or Ken O'Dell, (928) 476-5286, for information and reservations.

The PS User's Group will not meet in January. Your input is needed if the group is to continue. Do you want such a group? What would you like to learn? E-mail your comments to pcgroup@mypayson.com.

Are there other interest groups you would like to see here in Pine and Strawberry? Would you like to lead or assist with such a group? Let's hear from you.

AA meets at 6 p.m. every Sunday in the Pine Community Center senior dining room.
