Rev. Perry Raecker Epley died Jan. 18, 2006. He was born July 30, 1915 near Waverly, Iowa.
After high school graduation, he studied scientific agriculture at Iowa State College at Ames, and then, at 19, he started to prepare for the ministry. He had been in active Christian work since 1937, serving both denominational and nondenominational churches in Iowa, Colorado and Arizona. He was also a World War II chaplain.
Rev. Epley moved to Payson in 1980 and became active in the Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his sons, William of Phoenix/Payson and Bryan of Anchor Point, Alaska; daughter, Beth of Arvada, Colo.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Chalice Carey Epley in 1993, after a marriage of nearly 55 years; his second wife, Tillie Parkhill, whom he married in 1995, in 2002; son, Arthur; and parents, Arthur C. Epley and Lydia Raecker Epley.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23 at the First Church of the Nazarene, with interment to follow.
