The Lady Longhorns scratched, battled and clawed, but it wasn't enough to salvage an overtime win against the Alchesay Falcons.
"It's the hardest I've ever had a team play and lose," coach Rory Huff said after the Jan. 28 game.
The Falcons, who trailed for the first three quarters, rallied in the fourth stanza and in overtime for a pulsating 68-65 East region victory.
"Our youth showed in the fourth quarter and we were in foul trouble," Huff said.
The Horns were also plagued by a whopping 32 turnovers, many of which were the result of their inexperience -- the varsity lineup has three freshmen -- and the Falcons hounding defense.
For the Lady Horns, junior post player Tori Wilbanks finished with a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds. Christina Deaton, one of the trio of freshmen, tallied 12 points, corralled 12 rebounds and blocked three shots.
Senior guard Danielle O'Haver continued to build upon her PHS long distance shooting records, hitting three of six attempts from beyond the 19-foot-9-inch arc. She finished with 11 points.
Freshman Cydney Figueroa dished out a team-high six-assists and had one steal.
With the loss, the Lady Horns drop to 13-13 overall and 3-6 in the East.
The Lady Horns return to action at 6 p.m. Jan. 31 against the Blue Ridge Yellow Jackets in Lakeside.
