Grammy-nominated piano vocalist Judy Roberts returns to Payson at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12.
Roberts is a perennial favorite at Jazz in Az events in the Valley where she performs to sell-out audiences at ASU's Kerr Center, the Jazz in Az Sunday party at Johnny's Restaurant and Jazz Club, and other popular venues.
Her repertoire ranges from vintage and be-bop to swing and Cole Porter standards to the bossa novas of Carlos Jobim and contemporary Latin sounds.
Downbeat magazine said "Roberts is a sensitive, articulate pianist, with depth and range. Her playing is laced with intense, freshly-voiced choral passages. Her singing is delicate and breathy or worldly and sultry in accordance with the mood."
Roberts will be accompanied by a veteran rhythm section composed on Ted Sistrunk on upright bass, and former Payson resident Gerry Reynolds on drums. An additional musician may be added.
Roberts will appear at Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main Street. Her last performance in Payson attracted a full house, so reserve your seat by e-mailing Gerry Reynolds at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling him at 480-785-1278.
While the event is free, donations make it possible to continue the monthly Jazz in AZ series.
