July Begins With A Bang

July is the month with an attitude. Any month that begins with a bang-up holiday clearly is shouting, "Hey, look me over." The Fourth of July, that all-American, red, white and blue celebration of our independence, marches in to a Sousa beat. With Payson's love of parades, I'm surprised there isn't one for the Fourth. There are plenty of other things to do, however, from picnics and cookouts (be careful with that outdoor grill) to an afternoon and evening of games, music and fireworks at Green Valley Park. Enjoy, and don't forget to fly your flag.

Two Lifetime Awards for over 4,000 volunteer hours were presented at the recent Retired and Senior Volunteer Recognition Event honoring Rim Country volunteers. Recipients were Eva Prychodnik of the Payson Senior Thrift Store and Bruce Thompson of the Pine Senior Center and Thrift Shop. The two also received gold awards along with Rosalind Schuerer of the Payson Senior Center and Barbara Gustafson of Rim Country Museum and Museum of Rim Country Archaeology. Our congratulations and thanks to all.
