Local Named 'Woman To Watch'

Local artist Claudette Barker has been labeled a "woman to watch" by one of Sedona's premiere galleries. This weekend, her landscape paintings will hang alongside the work of Linda Demetre and Suzanne Loo-McCoy at El Prado Gallery. The show, "Women to Watch," will be on display through July.

"These women are experts at telling a beautiful story that leaves questions in the viewers' mind that are oh so pleasant to ponder," said gallery owner Joyice Gere. "Claudette's paintings seem to reach out to the viewer, inviting them to get lost in the landscape."

Capturing movement in her landscapes is, "just a lot of time spent painting and trying to capture the essence of the scene rather than every leaf or ripple of the water," Barker said.

She paints water into her landscapes because she said she loves its "still, serene, reflective qualities."

Barker tailors her paintings to the gallery where she shows.

The "Women to Watch" show will include eight new larger paintings by Barker. "Evening Glow" at 20 by 30 inches is the largest acrylic she has painted to date.
