The Payson Humane Society is turning away animals. It is at capacity with 45 dogs and 58 cats.
The shelter, located at 812 S. McLane Road, is open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It will be closed on the Fourth of July.
"We have 20 puppies and 11 kittens that are ready for adoption," said Janet Ostrom.
There are more kittens waiting for shots.
"Part of the problem is it's the season for cats. But we also have quite a few strays," Ostrom said. There are also five puppies and three dogs in foster homes, she said.
"When people lose a pet, this is the first place they should look for it, because both the town and county bring the strays to us."
If now is not the time for adding a four-legged friend to your family, the shelter can use donations of cleaning supplies, such as bleach, laundry soap and Pine-Sol. Cat litter is also needed.
Instead of food for the animals, Ostrom said the society would appreciate getting gift certificates to grocery stores, or having contributions made for the humane society at Payson Feed & Pet Supply.
