Another holiday is behind us and the worry about fire has subsided a bit with the recent wonderful rain. All is quite well in Pine and Strawberry.

The 108th Army band appeared before a record crowd. Listeners sat on the porch and out under the ramada as there was not even standing room in the Cultural Hall. The music was great and fun. We are very fortunate to have some great entertainment here.

Latest word from the Senior Center in Pine: Don't be a couch potato. Come join your neighbors for a delicious lunch at 11:30 a.m. and then stay for the afternoon activities. Monday and Friday there is poker. Call Bruce at (928) 476-4633. Tuesday is canasta. Call Willene at (928) 476-3587. Wednesday is euchre, Thursday is pinochle and Friday is bridge. Call Barbara for each of these at (928) 476-4511. The afternoon activities begin at 1 p.m.

What a great way to spend these hot summer afternoons.

Pay your yearly membership of a mere $5, and your lunch at the Senior Center is only $3.50. You will receive a hot entree, salad bar, beverage and sometimes even dessert. Non-members pay $5. Guests are always welcome. Come give it a try. Weekly menus are available at the Senior Thrift Store.

The visiting nurse is at the Pine Senior Center on the third Wednesday of each month from 9 to 11:30 a.m. She will check blood pressure and blood sugar. For the blood sugar test, fasting is required. Stop by to make sure you are staying on target.

Cool Pines Café just celebrated 46 years of business. The restaurant was opened in 1959 by Edna Blake. Gail Jones now operates the restaurant. Congratulations on such a proud history and may you have many more years serving the folks of our communities.

When you stop by the Pine Museum to see the beautiful Monkey Wrench quilt, pick up an application to join the Pine-Strawberry Archaeological and Historical Society. Annual membership is only $20 for an individual or family per year. The society does many good things for us. The museum and Strawberry Schoolhouse are only two of them. However, you do not need to be a member to volunteer to welcome visitors for a couple of hours a week. Stop by and get all the information.

AA meets at the Senior Center each Sunday at 6 p.m.
