Non-partisan petitions become available July 10 for candidates seeking election to the Gila Community College governing board term to which Don Crowley is currently appointed.
There are five board positions, each with a varied term.
Two GCC board member positions are coming up for voters to decide on at the polls Nov. 7.
The two-year term Bernadette Kniffin holds in District 5 (San Carlos) comes up for election this year.
The other person elected would complete the six-year term, representing District 1 --Payson -- that began in 2004.
Ron Christensen was first elected to the six-year term in 2004.
He resigned in April 2005 over the settlement agreement GCC made with Eastern Arizona College, after two years of litigation saying it "emasculated the governing board."
Richard Wolfe was then appointed by Gila County school superintendent Linda O'Dell.
Wolfe resigned in December 2005 when, among other reasons, state attorney general Terry Goddard required that Wolfe sign a consent agreement regarding open meeting law violations even though Wolfe was not a member of the board when the violations occurred.
O'Dell then appointed Crowley in April 2006.
Crowley said he plans to run for election and is gathering the required signatures.
Petitions may be obtained locally at the satellite office at 100 N. Beeline Highway.
Petitions may be filed from July 10 through Aug. 9.
