Jazz pianist and vocalist Bill Ippolito returns to Payson Sunday, July 9. He will present a concert at 2 p.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St. This performance is part of a regular monthly jazz series co-sponsored by Jazz in Arizona, Inc.
Ippolito is a popular club performer in Orange County, Calif. and recently was featured on a cruise.
He mixes standard jazz instrumentals with ballads popularized by Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and other male jazz singers from their era.
He stops into Payson from time to time to see his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Marilyn Ippolito. As a retired Delta pilot, he flies his own plane to Payson. And, as the author of the book, "Leaving on a Jet Plane," he tells the story of how he began his career in aviation as a pianist on the cocktail flight from Southern California to Las Vegas.
Phoenix upright bassist, Dave Grale, and part-time local resident and drummer, Gerry Reynolds, will join Ippolito to form a trio for this performance.
As usual, the performance is free, but donations that are received at the door provide the means to bring musicians like Bill Ippolito to Payson on a monthly basis.
Jazz in Arizona board member and series organizer Gerry Reynolds loves to hear from the faithful Rim Country jazz fans. So, let him know that you may be attending by sending an e-mail to him at firstname.lastname@example.org or leaving a message at (480) 785-1278.
