Star Valley Budget Adopted

Planning and zoning meets for first time

The town of Star Valley Tuesday night adopted its 2006-2007 fiscal-year budget.

The town budget, which will be adopted for the final time on Aug. 1, can now only be decreased, not increased while waiting for final adoption.

Interim Town Manager Lanny Sloan said the budget, totaling $1.425 million will give Star Valley some leeway for potential future projects.

Vice Mayor Randy White wondered why there were franchise fees for Arizona Public Service for $24,000 and Cablevision for $5,000, while there was not a fee in the budget for telephone service.

Sloan said he is looking into franchise fees for Qwest and added that any changes to the budget as a result of another franchise fee would be minimal.

After the council meeting, the very first Star Valley Planning and Zoning Commission meeting was held.

The commission voted Diane McDaniel in as chairperson, Ray Lyons as vice-chairman and Karen Benjamin as secretary.

The commission also set regular meeting times. The Star Valley Planning and Zoning Commission will now meet at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month.
