Q: Does the Arizona Department of Transportation have any plans to connect the Beeline Highway with Highway 101 in the Valley? It sure would make commutes easier.
A: ADOT has no plans to connect those two highways," said Diane D'Angelo, public information officer for the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Q: Payson generally keeps its streets and ditch areas clean. However, we are wondering who has the responsibility for cleaning the ditch area immediately north of the Maverick filling station. The trash that has accumulated is significant. Whose responsibility is it to keep that area clean?
A: It is the Town of Payson's responsibility, according to La Ron Garret, town public works engineer.
"If it needs to be cleaned, we will put it on the list and get it cleaned," he said.
Q: Does the town have ordinances on the size of a business that can be operated out of a residence?
A: "The Town allows home-based businesses subject to the rules of 1502-004 of the Unified Development Code," wrote the town's community development director Jerry Owen in an e-mail to the Payson Roundup. "There is no size standard. The business must be operated within the residence or an accessory structure, not outdoors. Certain intensive uses, barber and beauty, car repair, kennels, etc. are not allowed as home occupations. The business must be run by the owners or renters of the property -- no outside employees except by conditional use permit by the P&Z Commission. No signage is allowed on the property; no extra ordinary delivery trucks; no visible business activity before 8 am or after 8 pm; no noise, dust, smoke at the property line; must meet all fire and building codes and obtain a Town business license. Those businesses generating more than two customer trips a day must obtain a conditional use permit. This is the abbreviated version. If you have specific questions, please don't hesitate to call 474-5242 ext. 267."
