Cleaning Rim Country One Baseboard At A Time

Need a hand with housekeeping? Have debris to be cleaned up around a remodel or new construction? The Cheaper Sweeper is the company to call.

The Cheaper Sweeper, owned by Beth Smith, had its start in the Phoenix area 16 years ago.

Beth Smith was a single mother tired of working for other people when she started The Cheaper Sweeper in the Valley 16 years ago. The company has been in the Rim Country for 11 years.

"I was tired of working for other people," she said. "I was a single mom and wanted to have my own hours to be with my kids. We started by putting flyers on the windshields of cars and grew it from there."

After six years in the Valley, Smith moved the company to Payson and brought on three women to help her. The Cheaper Sweeper now has 13 full-time employees, plus two part-time people.

"My ultimate goal its to employ 15 to 16 people and to run seven to eight crews a day," Smith said. "We cover all of Payson, Strawberry, Pine, Tonto Village, Little Green Valley, Tonto Basin and Whispering Pines. We have even gone as far a Telluride, Colo. for a job."

Smith and her crew clean for about 330 clients. They do 15 to 16 houses a day. Most clients have the company come in on a bi-weekly basis.

Smith said the company can handle a variety of cleaning projects: Residential homes, remodels, new construction and thorough "spring" cleaning. They will come in on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.

"We clean from baseboards to ceiling fans, from windows to walls, even the pipes behind the toilet and lightbulbs inside lamps. I supply all the equipment and chemicals for each different job," Smith said.

If a client would prefer a certain type of product be used instead of those Smith and her crews use, and are willing to supply it, the company's employees will be accommodating.

The Cheaper Sweeper will also do checks on homes of part-time residents.

"We'll check to see that everything is secure, flush toilets --that sort of thing," Smith said.

"I pride my business of being friendly, thorough, reliable and trustworthy. We show up when we say we will and if for any reason someone is not satisfied, we come back with a smile to correct the problem."

Smith prefers to keep weekends free for her crew, but in special cases, a Saturday job will be accepted.
