The fate of the Payson Event Center -- comprised of 150 bedrooms and a 500-seat conference room -- falls upon the Payson Town Council at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 20.
The council has two options: It can sell the town-owned land or lease it to Hospitality Support Group, developers of the Event Center.
Town Manager Fred Carpenter said if the council decides to lease the land, the town can move forward with documentation drafted by attorneys representing each party.
The question of whether to relocate or remodel the current event center also comes before the council. If the council opts to remodel, the location of the new complex, including the hotel and a cover on the rodeo grounds, will stay across the street from the Mazatzal Casino.
A relocation, however, entails finding new land in a location yet to be determined.
The special council meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in council chambers, 303 N. Beeline Highway.
