Augustus Eugene Stewart, DO, 77, of Tempe and Payson, died July 15 in Phoenix.
He was born March 29, 1929, in Rio Grande, Ohio.
Dr. Stewart is preceded in death by his wife, Jane Edith Stewart, and three sons, Richard, Stephen, and Paul.
He is survived by his son, Robert Stewart; daughters, Amy Workman and Annette Petersen; two brothers and four sisters; and 10 grandchildren.
Born seventh of 12 children to Benjamin Harrison Stewart and Edith Lamblin Stewart, he graduated from Bowling Green State University and Ohio State University.
Dr. Stewart was an Army Artillery Officer in the Korean War, 1st Lieutenant and Executive Officer of the 24th Special Services and 24th Medical Battalions. He graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery and practiced in Bay City, Mich. before moving to Nevada, Mo. for a residency in psychiatry.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He moved to Phoenix in 1972, practicing psychiatry and general practice. He was a member and deacon of North Phoenix Baptist Church, and later the First Southern Baptist Church in Payson. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. and a funeral service will be held on Monday, July 24, at 9 a.m. at Best Funeral Services, 501 E Dunlap Ave. in Phoenix.
Interment at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix.
