Tug of war, sack races, baking contests, and a barbeque beef picnic were all part of the annual Pioneer Day celebration at Rumsey Park Saturday.

Pioneer Day, officially recognized July 24, commemorates the entry of Brigham Young and the first group of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley July 24, 1847.

But it is also recognized as a day to honor all pioneers who overcame hardships and persevered to settle the West.
