Women Tearing Up Payson Golf Course With Fun

"Three Blind Mice" and "Odd or Even" were the games of the day for members of the Payson Women's Golf Association.

In the Three Blind Mice formatted tournament, played July 18 at Payson Golf Course, entrants tallied their net scores and subtracted tallies on three randomly picked holes, PWGA member Joyce Goff said.

In the Odd or Even fray, July 25 also at PGC, each player had the option of scoring either the odd of even holes and subtracting one-half their handicap to determine their overall tournament score.

Laura Meyocks, who has been red hot on the PWGA scene as of late, won the A flight title in the Three Blind Mice fray posting a 56. With a 61, Nancy Little was second.

In B flight, Jan Burns took first carding a 54. Joyce Karnes and Shari Cody deadknotted for second with identical scores of 55. In C flight, Sharon Vaplon's 50 was easily the best of the flight. Ethel Zakariason posted a 59 to claim runner-up laurels.

Karen Peterson pocketed closest to the pin prize money on No. 8 with a tee shot that rolled to within 18 feet, 5 inches of the flag. Karen won on No. 14 with a lie of 7 feet.

In the Odd or Even shoot out, Judy Neal swung her way to the A flight crown at 30.5. In B flight, Shari Cody and Kay Davis shared top gun honors with a pair of 34s. Scoring a 35, Karnes was second in the flight.

Glenda Cook (35) edged Connie Gyde (37) for the C flight crown.

Cody was closest to the pin winner on No. 5 (6 feet, 5 inches) and Neal on No. 17 (38 feet, 1 inch).

Next up for the PWGA 18 hole group is the President's Cup tournament to be played August 7 and 8.
