Payson families hosted four foreign exchange students and sent one away for the 2005-2006 school year.
Now, two of the three programs operating in town are seeking host families for the 2006-2007 school year.
"I am seeking families who are willing to open their hearts and homes to high school foreign exchange students in Payson," said Edie Miller, local coordinator for Education First Foundation for Foreign Study.
EFFFS brought Selke Tombraegel from Oldenburg, Germany and Taru Tarnanen from Tikkurila, Finland. They attended Payson High School.
Miller ensures host families and exchange students are well matched and offers guidance and assistance to both parties throughout the year.
Host families provide room, board and a caring environment in exchange for a lifelong international friendship, Miller said.
Alternate host families are needed as well. They take care of the student when the primary family cannot.
Call Miller at (928) 476-4871 or visit www.effoundation.org.
Nacel Open Door is also seeking host families. Anne Szabo from Bergisch Gladbach, Germany came to Payson and Center for Success from Nacel's program. Call Nacel at (800) 622-3553 or www.nacelopendoor.com.
Rotary sent Anthony Incardona Votuporanga to Sao Paolo, Brazil and brought Augusto Ludvik Filip Marino from Barretos of Sao Paolo, Brazil to attend PHS. The club will not host or send an exchange student during the next school year.
