The Potato Fire in Heber, which was caused by dry lightning at 1: 30 p.m. Tuesday, will not affect the Payson area.
Karth Ray, from the information office of the White Mountain Zone, said the fire, located 10 miles northwest of Heber-Overgaard, is producing minimal smoke.
Firefighters were initially concerned the fire, which has consumed 1,800 acres, could reach the KV power transmission line that supplies power to Phoenix.
At press time, the fire was 30 percent contained.
There are approximately 140 personnel committed to the Potato Fire with four engines, five bulldozers, four water trucks one helicopter and five Hotshot crews.
The area received a half inch of rain on Wednesday night.
