If player registration continues at the same hectic pace it has during the first two sign-ups, the Payson Youth Football League might be forced to add a team for the first time in a decade.
"We have a lot of new players sign up, ones that haven't played ball here before," local youth league representative Mike Conway said.
If a team is added, it would be in the major division that now houses only the Raiders from Payson.
"If that happens, we will then have two teams in each division -- mighty mites, minors and majors," Conway said.
Mighty might division teams will include the Cowboys and Bears. The Bucs and Broncos will represent Payson in the minor division and the Raiders and the new team would enter the majors.
With two registration periods in the history books, only two more remain.
They will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 24 and July 15 at Farm Bureau Insurance located at 102 W. Roundup. The fee is $75 and players should bring a birth certificate and a parent to the sign-up.
Practices and regular season games begin in August.
Payson will participate next season in the Central Arizona Youth Football Association along with teams representing Chino Valley, Camp Verde, the White Mountains and Round Valley.
