A pair of Payson junior golfers, Tyler Apps and Dean Harpe, have received invitations to compete in the Southwest PGA Westfield Junior Championships.
The prestigious showdown will be held June 29 and 30 at Cottonwood Country Club in Sun Lakes near Chandler.
The two received the invitations because of their first place finishes in their age group during the Southwest Section PGA Antigua Junior Tour tournament at Silver Creek Golf Course near Show Low.
Apps carded a 43 to win the 11-12 years age group title.
A tally of 50 earned Harpe the 10-years-and-under crown.
Both dominated in their victories -- Apps finished 12 shots ahead of runner-up Matthew Farrar and Harpe was nine shots in front of second place finisher Dallin Fusselman.
In the junior championships, both Apps and Harpe -- because they are in 12-years-and-under age groups -- will play nine holes each day. The older age groups play 18 holes each day.
Winners of the Arizona tournament will earn berths into the National Championships to be held Aug. 10 through 13 at Westfield Country Club in Ohio.
In addition to competing on the PGA tour, both boys will play regularly on the US Kids Phoenix circuit. Next school year, Harpe will be a fourth grader at Frontier Elementary. Apps will be a seventh grader at Rim Country Middle School.
