Roland R. Kruse, 89, of Payson, died June 26, 2006. He was born in Ohio and graduated from Miami of Ohio (history) and the University of Michigan (law). In addition to playing drums in the University of Michigan marching band, he played piano and drums in many bands.

He was a naval officer in Guam during World War II.

Mr. Kruse married Doyce 39 years ago, joining two families. The families traveled to many places including England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, with plenty of golf.

Mr. Kruse served the American Bar Association as the Arizona representative for the Real Properties, Probate and Trust Section, and helped write the Uniform Probate Code. He was known as Mr. Probate by many in the law field, and retired in 1982 as a partner of Snell and Wilmer.

He was also most proud of being one of two (with Rev. Ev Luther) who conceived and built The Beatitudes Retirement Community and was president of the board of directors for seven years.

He is survived by his wife, Doyce; six children; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 5 at First Southern Baptist Church, 302 S. Ash St. in Payson.
