Best-Behaved Buddies Waiting

The Payson Roundup is pleased to bring you this new, weekly column featuring adoptable pets from the Payson Humane Society.

This week, we are highlighting five of our best-behaved, friendliest and most bright-spirited adoptable pets:

Big Boy is a 5-year-old neutered male cat who is mostly black with some white markings. He is a big guy as his name implies, and he has a huge heart full of love. He is a solar-powered kitty who requires at least two hours of sunshine each day to recharge his batteries. He is well socialized with other cats and often you may see him curled up beside another cat, sharing body warmth.

Dottie is a playful 5-year-old spayed female grey tabby cat. She loves getting attention and would make a perfect lap cat.

She used to live with another cat, and gets along well with the cats in her enclosure. She would like some feline companions to keep her company when her people are not at home.

Chino is a sweet, 2-year-old neutered male Basenji/Pit Bull mix with a marvelous disposition. His coat is a soft, warm, golden brown and he is a very clean-looking dog. Walking him on leash is such a pleasure because he is gentle and responsive. He loves to go for car rides. He'd like to be allowed indoors, especially at night and in cold weather. He gives the best kisses to people he likes, and gets along great with other dogs. This pup is a real loverboy.

Duke is a handsome 1-year-old neutered male Australian cattle dog. He is mostly white with artistically placed spots on his ears, legs and body. He is such a good boy and is used to spending time in the house, even sleeping in bed with his favorite people. He stays put in a fenced yard when outdoors. Duke is gentle with people of all ages -- from newborns and toddlers to old folks. He also gets along great with other dogs and cats. This dear pup is well behaved on leash and will do almost anything you ask, especially for an edible reward. He is housebroken and rides like a charm in the car.

Brandi is a charming 3-year-old Walker hound mix. She has a short, easy-care black coat with beautiful white and brown markings. Brandi is a great family dog who loves to play with toys and travel in cars. She is housebroken, and knows how to use a doggie door. She is the best little leash walker, going straight out, head held high without pulling. Doggie heaven for Brandi is finding a lush patch of green grass to roll in and turning her pink spotted tummy up for you to rub-a-dub-dub. This pup is really sweet, loving and a little plump. Brandi gets our best 4-paws-up rating! She is one of our special needs dogs. She will require thyroid medication for her lifetime.

Payson Humane Society news

In anticipation of a brisk kitten season soon to be upon us, the Payson Humane Society is asking for donations to be used for the purchase of kitten food.

Our food sheds are full to bursting from the generous donations of adult dog and cat food received during the holiday season. Therefore, we have set up a special food fund. The money collected in this fund will be used to purchase kitten food and to replenish other food supplies as they get low. Payson Feed has special gift certificates you can purchase for the humane society to be used for food. Gift cards from Safeway, Bashas' and Wal-Mart are also welcome, and will be added to the food fund.

The Payson Humane Society animal shelter is located just south of Main Street at 812 S. McLane Rd. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information, please call (928) 474-5590.
