Snow Blankets Payson, Many Roads Closed

Posted Sunday morning, March 12, 2006.

Payson High School student Hannah Palandri looks to the skies as measurable snow began to fall in Payson for the first time this winter season.

Unofficially, Payson received as much as 20 inches of snow this weekend. Many roads are closed or impassable. The Red Cross has established an emergency shelter for stranded travelers at the old Payson High School gym on Longhorn Road, just east of the Highway 87/260 intersection in Payson. As of this post, both major highways in and out of town are closed.

Most church services have been canceled and residents are urged to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
