Larry Peterson, 55, of Payson, died Thursday, March 2, 2006. He was born in Lansing Mich. where he resided until he graduated from high school in 1968. Mr. Peterson enlisted in the U.S. Navy a short time afterward and was assigned to the USS Arlington (harbored at Pearl Harbor). He and his shipmates traveled to Japan, Midway, Guam and Australia. The USS Arlington, a tracking ship for all moon shots, afforded Mr. Peterson the opportunity to witness the splash down of Apollo 10.
While he was in the Navy, his family moved to Arizona. After he finished his tour in the Navy, Mr. Peterson saved money and bought a Harley, rode for a year and returned to Phoenix where he married Nina Bolt, and had a son, Christopher Charles, and a daughter, Amber Lea. The marriage lasted 21 years.
In the year of 1994, he married Teri Hale, to whom he was married at the time of his death.
He worked at the Tonto Fish Hatchery for 30 years, and retired as hatchery manager.
Mr. Peterson had many hobbies and interests: drag racing, flat track racing, motocross, bowling, softball, basketball, archery, horses, music and flying acrobatic RC planes.
Survivors include his wife, Teri, son, Chris (Wendy), grandson, Jarod, daughter, Amber, brothers: Steve, Mike (Margaret) and Rick (Wilma), sister, Brenda, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Harold Peterson.
Memorial services will be determined at a later date.
