New College Board Member Sought

Dick Wolfe's resignation from the Gila Community College Board of Governors has left a vacancy that needs to be filled.

County School Superintendent Linda O'Dell is accepting names of residents in the Gila County Community College District who are interested in appointment to the District 1 governing board.

"I am aware of two or three people in the Payson area who are interested in being appointed to the position," O'Dell said.

The appointee would serve until Dec. 31, 2006.

Any new member of the board of governors will help create policies that help the community college provide a good education for its students.

In the event that nobody steps up to fill the seat left vacant by Wolfe, the board position would remain open until such time as someone decides to run for it.

Someone who is appointed now will have the option to run in the November 2006 election against any other person who is interested in a board position. Once elected, the new board member's term will last six years beginning Jan. 1, 2007.

Meanwhile, members of the current board completed a two-hour Open Meeting Law training required by state Attorney General Terry Goddard at the March 23 meeting in Globe.

The meeting was not broadcast via interactive television to the Payson campus, although it was open to the public.
