Stanley E. Goebel, 91, of Deer Creek, died March 22, 2006. He was born in Secor, Ill. on June 19, 1914, and was raised in Secor and Eureka, Ill.
While serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Reedsburg, Wis., he met and married Mary E. Tait.
They had two children, Veronia (Eugene) Hnilicka and James (Elizabeth) Goebel.
Mary died in childbirth with their third child.
In 1950, Mr. Goebel married Lillian Ostergaard, nee Walquist, Thompson. Together they had one daughter, Linda (Jerry) Ricks. Another daughter, Penny Lou, died at birth.
Mr. Goebel's career included an apprenticeship as a machinist with Caterpillar in Peoria, Ill. with stints at Studebaker and Nash, making aircraft parts for Pratt and Whitney. After the war, he personally handmade the prototype of the Sheridan Air Rifle.
Then he went into management for Hamilton Beach in Racine, Wis.
In 1962, he moved to California and again worked in the aircraft industry. His last years before retirement were spent doing what he loved, working at a machine.
Mr. Goebel retired first to Lake Havasu and then Deer Creek. His passions in retirement were raising African violets, cooking and eating. He enjoyed spending time with his family in Deer Creek and Rye.
Survivors include his children; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Leo Goebel; sisters: Henrietta Ritchie, Belle Chismark, and Thyra Meyers; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home, 302 W. Aero Dr. in Payson. Interment will be at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park in Payson.
