Duck Race Will Raise Money For Whispering Hope Ranch

The Third Annual Christopher Creek Duck Race is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, at the Landmark. The race begins at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to this family fun event where they race plastic ducks down the creek to the finish line at the Landmark.

The little yellow ducks are available anytime until the race begins. Ducks cost just $5 and the proceeds go to benefit the Whispering Hope Ranch. There will be prizes for first, second and third place. Aubrey Sibley, Miss Arizona, is scheduled to appear.

Easter at the Landmark

Finally, after a long winter, the Landmark will be open for business on the patio.

I cannot believe it is April and we are talking about the Easter bunny. Well, here it goes. Sunday, April 16 the Landmark will be serving Easter Brunch and at 2 p.m. the Easter Bunny is coming, rain or shine. The Annual Easter Egg Hunt for the children and grandchildren of Christopher Creek will be held at 2 p.m. Easter Sunday. Everyone will gather at the forest gate on Friendly Elk Road at the top of Hillcrest. There will be a hunting area for toddlers through age 5 and another for children ages 6 through 12.

Children should bring their own baskets to find the 400 eggs the fluffy rabbit will hide. There will be additional prizes for the funniest and cutest bonnets worn by both girls and boys. Immediately following the egg hunt there will be a Best Bonnet contest among the adults, so get working to create the most fashionable bonnet ever seen on Friendly Elk Road, and bring the kids along for a fun experience they will be sure to remember.

Fire Department business

Christopher/Kohl's Fire Department has received a grant from the Governor's Highway Safety Program. The grant is in the amount of $13,210. A big thanks goes out to the department's Administrative Secretary, Lorraine Matthews, who wrote this grant.

The money will be used to purchase a new gurney for the rescue unit, extrication tools and an evac-u-splint system. Chief Ray Larsen stresses that these grants are a vital part of the fire and medical operations, and without this money, services would be substandard without the above equipment. The equipment will help EMS personnel be more proficient.

Three volunteers from the Fire Department have just returned from the Arizona Wildfire Academy -- Scotty and Electra VanEckhoutte and Sam Seay.
