Dump Truck Tears Down Power Lines

A dump truck traveling on Airport Road with its bucket raised caught power lines near 700 W. Airport Road, snapping the wires and bringing down the pole.

"About 3,000 of our customers lost power," said Jan Parsons, regional manager for APS.

A dump truck with its bucket raised tore down power lines, causing an afternoon power outage.

Telephone and cable television service were also interrupted by the Tuesday afternoon accident.

Parsons said the electrical service was interrupted for residents of Skypark, Country Club Vista, Payson Ranchos, Payson Pines, Mesa del Caballo, Whispering Pines and all the way to Blue Ridge.

The outage began around 2 p.m., with most power restored within only 40 minutes. Approximately 500 customers did not get the power back until about 5:40 p.m., Parsons said.

The repairs required Airport Road to be restricted to a single lane at the accident site, and briefly closed the road around 5:30 p.m.

Parsons did not know if the truck driver would be cited by law enforcement, However, APS will probably file an insurance claim to recover to cost of the repairs.
