Preparing For Fire Season

For some extra fire protection following a dry winter, the U.S. Forest Service has contracted with M&M Airservice of Texas to station two 802-A Airtractors at the Payson airport.

Pilots Fred Worden of Tucson, left, and James Daniell will be flying the planes which carry 800-gallons of liquid concentrate fire retardant.

Base Operations Manager Bill Barcus said the planes and a helicopter will remain at the airport until the Rim Country receives enough precipitation to reduce the fire danger.
