Roundup Reporters Place In State Competition

On May 6, journalists from across the state gathered for the 2005 Arizona Press Club competition for the Best Journalism in Arizona.

Awards were presented at the 82nd Annual Awards Banquet at the Heard Museum in Phoenix.

Payson Roundup reporter Felicia Megdal took first place for Business Reporting for the article "Housing costs outpace local middle class." She competed against 30 entries in the category. Of her story, judge Ron French wrote, "This story explains in a thorough and conversational tone a phenomenon affecting everyone who lives in Arizona. Instead of settling for the obvious angle -- skyrocketing home values helping the economy -- the reporter talked to people who were being priced out of the market. Numbers may spark a story idea, but people make a story."

At the same ceremony, Roundup reporter Max Foster was given an honorable mention in Sports Reporting for his piece "Residents open hearts to cancer victim."
