Six County Posts Up For Election, Most Unopposed

As the Payson mayoral and council elections wind down, the county election season is getting started.

The Gila County election process begins a day before ballots are due for the town council race.

"(Nominating) Petitions will be accepted starting May 15," said Dixie Mundy, elections director for Gila County. The deadline to submit the petitions is 5 p.m. June 14. The papers must be filed in Globe, Mundy said.

There are six county posts up for election and all but one are uncontested.

The one race is for the Payson Regional Justice of the Peace job. There are three Republicans running for the office, incumbent Dorothy Little, and challengers Dan Hill and Barry Standifird.

Incumbents are seeking re-election to five other county offices unopposed. Democrat Robert Duber will run for Superior Court Judge, Division 2. Democrat Anita Escobedo will run for Clerk of the Superior Court. Patty Nolan, Democrat, is running for Globe Regional Justice of the Peace. Jess Bolinger, Democrat, is running for Globe Regional Constable and Sam Brewer, Republican, is running for Payson Regional Constable.
