Humane Society Wants Old Cell Phones, Printer Cartridges

The Payson Humane Society is in the business of caring for cast off animals. Now it is seeking a different kind of cast off -- used printer ink cartridges and old cell phones.

The humane society has participated in the "Cash for Critters" program, sponsored by CKA Associates, for about a year and has raised approximately $1,700 through it, according to coordinator Penny McKinlock. The program is free for the humane society.

The "Cash for Critters" program raises funds for the Payson Humane Society by exchanging money for discarded cell phones and printer cartridges.

CKA Associates will give the humane society anywhere between $1 and $12 for used printer ink cartridges and will also give money for used cell phones and their batteries.

"They will not take cartridges for Epson printers and they don't want any phone accessories," McKinlock said.

There are convenient donation boxes at Wal-Mart and Bashas' and there are shipping envelopes at the humane society building, 812 S. McLane Road; the Payson Public Library, 328 N. McLane Road; Fiesta Business Products, 200 W. Frontier St.; and Dove's Nest Computer Solutions, Inc., 134 E. Highway 260.

"It's a total win-win situation for us," McKinlock said.
