JUNE

CRAFT FAIR

June 3-4

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Register by June 7 -- Season begins June 26

Registration for men's and women's softball began May 3 and continues through June 7. Recreation and competitive divisions will be offered as long as a minimum of four teams sign-up for each division. The fee is $275 per team, which includes a tournament. Games begin on June 27. All participants must be at least 16 years of age.

7D BARREL/POLE BENDING SERIES

Wednesday nights in June and July. Starts June 7

The Payson Parks & Recreation Department will sponsor a Wednesday night barrel and pole bending series in June and July, beginning June 7. The books will open at 5:30 p.m. with competitions starting at 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per run. Awards will be presented July 26 and will be based on a point system. STRAWBERRY PATCHERS QUILT GUILD SHOW

The area's many quilting groups put on a spectacular show when the Strawberry Patchers host the annual quilt guild show in June.

SOAPBOX DERBY

June 10, Green Valley Parkway

Payson is hosting the Arizona All American Qualifying Race. The winners in three categories -- Stock, Super Stock and Masters -- are entitled to compete in the Nationals in Akron, Ohio. For details, call the Payson Main Street office, (928) 468-6074.

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL

SUMMER RECREATION CENTER

Monday through Thursday, June 12 through July 13

Youth who have completed the fourth through eighth grades are invited to the town's Recreation Center at Rim Country Middle School Gym. Drop by anytime between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The doors open June 12 and the program continues through July 13. This program offers a variety of organized activities that could include, depending on interest, basketball, dodge ball, badminton, craft projects, etc. There is no charge to attend, but some organized outings will be offered and fees will be required to participate. These outings will be posted at the gym.

ASA GIRLS FAST PITCH TOURNAMENT

Saturday and Sunday -- June 17-18

Enter your girls' team in this tournament for a fee of $300. The deadline for entering is June 2. For more information, contact the Payson Parks and Recreation Department at (928) 474-5242, ext. 7.

PAYSON STAMPEDE STREET FAIR

PAYSON SPRINT TRIATHLON

Pre-registration closes June 30. Event is July 8.

Join us for the first annual Payson Sprint Triathlon.

The adult division is for anyone over 15 years of age and will consist of a 500-yard swim, 15-mile bike ride and 5K run.

The youth division is for anyone 7-14 years of age and will consist of a 200-yard swim, 3-mile bike ride and 1-1/2-mile run. Enter as a team or an individual. If your registration form is received by June 30, the fee for adults is $30/individual or $65/team; the fee for youth is $15/individual or $30/team. An additional $10 will be charged for all registrations received after the preregistration deadline.

JULY

ASA STATE COED SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

NFL FLAG FOOTBALL

Registration begins July 3 and continues through July 26. Season begins Aug. 28

This program is for boys and girls, ages 6-14. It provides an opportunity for kids to become involved in football by developing the first phase of player skills. The cost is $25 per child.

JULY 4TH FIREWORKS & FAMILY FUN DAY

This is a free event featuring fireworks and entertainment that the family is sure to enjoy. The fun will take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Green Valley Park Amphitheater. Games include gunnysack races, tug-o-war, and other activities for all ages. Bring a picnic basket and blanket, or grab some food from one of the vendors that will be on hand. After a day of fun enjoy live family entertainment by a Top 40 Country band called Western Fusion from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A traditional, grand patriotic fireworks display over Green Valley Lake will follow.

3rd ANNUAL HOME RUN DERBY

Register by July 19. Event is Friday, July 21.

Enter your men's or women's team of 3 in the Home Run Derby for $45 by Wednesday, July 19. All players 21 years of age and older are invited to participate in this event, sponsored by Mazatzal Casino and Payson Parks & Recreation. Tournament will take place at Rumsey II ball field starting at 6 p.m. Friday, July 21. Each team will be playing for prize money, which will be donated to a local non-profit organization of their choice. All players will receive a T-shirt, and trophies will be awarded to the top 3 teams in each division.

MONSOON 5K RUN

Saturday, Aug. 5

This 3.1-mile course around Green Valley Park starts at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $15 for those who pre-register, and $20 the day of the race.

WORLD'S OLDEST CONTINUOUS RODEO

Tough stock and tougher cowboys make the World's Oldest Continuous Rodeo in Payson one of the area's most popular events. First held in 1884, the tradition has continued nonstop for 122 years.

Aug. 18-20 at the Payson Event Center

Rodeo show times are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The parade will travel down Beeline Highway starting at 9 a.m. on August 19. Contact Payson Chamber of Commerce at (928) 474-4515 for more information.

NORTHERN GILA COUNTY FAIR

Sept. 8-10, 2006 at the Payson Event Center
