Club Rim team members have taken another step toward their goal of participating in the ultimate volleyball experience.
The stride was made May 23 when Canyon State Credit Union branch manager Patty Steeley presented Club Rim coaches and players with a donation of $250.
The money will be used to help pay team expenses for traveling to the prestigious Reno Volleyball Festival set for June 24 to 30 in Reno and Sparks, Nev.
Club Rim coach Donna Moore said the festival, which represents the pinnacle of club play, will draw over 6,000 teenage athletes from around the country.
"There will also be college scouts and coaches watching the players," she said.
Club Rim middle hitter Tori Wilbanks admitted she was excited about playing in front of the scouts and hopefully performing well enough to attract their attention.
"The exposure will be good for all of us on the team," she said.
Moore also expects the tournament to provide a format where young players can pick up plenty of playing experience against quality opponents.
"During the week, we'll probably play about 20 matches against some very good teams," she said.
The festival tips off June 24 with coaches and chaperones meetings, practices, a picnic and opening ceremonies in Mackay Stadium on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno.
Pool play by age group begins June 25 and continues through June 29 when division playoffs begin.
The tournament wraps up with championship games June 30.
For Club Rim coaches and players, the quest to earn the money needed to travel to Reno continues June 17 with a raffle.
Among the raffle prizes are a two-night stay at Majestic Mountain Inn, a $100 fishing package at Kohl's Ranch, an Arizona Diamondbacks autographed baseball, a Phoenix Coyotes autographed puck, an autographed picture of Arizona Rattlers Shedrick Bonner and Randy Gatewood and gift certificates from Fargo's Steak House, Chili's, Payson Concrete, Bashas', Safeway, Cucina Paradiso, Payson Candle Factory, Backstreet Salon, To Massage or Knot and Payson Jewelers.
Chiara Mare, a Scottsdale spa, and Joey's Bristo in Sedona also have donated prizes.
Raffle tickets can be purchased from any Club Rim team member.
